ABOUT US
Why?
Worldwide an increasing demand for skilled gender surgeons amidst a fast expanding transgender field is becoming apparent. What we urgently need is a way to train dedicated surgeons towards highly qualified gender surgeons.
We are all familiar with the traditional way of teaching and learning : looking over the shoulder of the master during an operation. In fact, also life surgery symposia are an adjunctive to the old way of learning. It looks easy, until we have to do it ourselves. Sooner or later you realize you missed some important knowledge which forces you to take risks. Risks that most probably effect the result of the surgical treatment.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect.

A new way of learning
The Amsterdam Gender Rounds promotes excellence in gender affirming surgery. The courses offer a revolutionary view within the development and provision of surgical training. They comprises a combination of lectures, instructional video’s with 3D anatomy and hands-on cadaveric dissection. Each trainee will practice on his one well-preserved cadaver with lifelike morphology, and will receive direct feedback from personal proctors. Together with a fellow surgeon the trainees alternately practice gender surgical techniques. Collaborative learning enhances critical thinking, creates more ways to solve problems and improves social skills and relationships.
